A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped on multiple occasions in the last eight months by four persons in Palghar. Two of the four accused are minors. All four were arrested Sunday after the victim, who is eight months pregnant, filed a complaint.

The Palghar police said the girl was first sexually assaulted in September 2014 and it continued till April 2015. The accused, aged 22, 18, 16 and 15, were known to the victim.

The police said the 22-year-old man first raped the girl when she was alone at home one day. He was then allegedly joined by his friends who continued to exploit her over the next eight months. “The adult accused would threaten the girl with dire consequences if she spoke to anyone,” said API Deepak Salunkhe.

The case came to light Friday when the girl met her aunt. “The aunt noticed that the girl seemed distressed. When she asked her if anything was troubling her, the girl said she had been gaining weight,” said Salunkhe. Alarmed, the aunt took her to a hospital. The doctors confirmed the girl was eight months pregnant.

“We have charged them with rape under the Indian Penal Code and also the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” the police said.
