Dharacvi police on Thursday said they had recovered six models of Honda City from two suspects they had arrested on Sunday night.
Shabbir Sayyad (18) and Zubair Shaikh (27) were noticed wandering beside an unoccupied car by a police patrol in Naik Nagar on LBS Marg in Dharavi. When the police went out of sight,the two tried to break into the car. However,they were caught red-handed by the officers who were observing them from a distance.
On interrogation,they revealed that they had stolen six models of Honda City from various parts of the city in the last six years. The cars,which are valued at more than Rs 30 lakh, were recovered from Versova,Khar and Bandra. Shabbir is an unemployed man from Ghatkopar,while Zubair lives in Bandra west.
The accused also have more than twenty cases of robbery registered against them in Bhayander,Kapurbavdi and Naupada. In addition,they are also involved in over ten other cases in Navi Mumbai.
Cop assaults driver of TV news channel
AN inspector of the Dharavi police station assaulted the driver of a TV news channel van for parking at the police station on Thursday afternoon. Several media persons had gathered at Dharavi police station on Thursday afternoon for a press conference. Inspector Irfan Shaikh objected to the van being parked inside the station and beat up the driver.
However,Shaikh apologised after the DCP and senior police inspector intervened. Since the inspector has apologised,we are not pressing any charges, said the driver who was assaulted.
