As 19,000 cops had been deployed in Mumbai to prevent any untoward incident during the Ganesh festival,police said. Ganesh Chaturthi marks the start of the 10-day festival on Wednesday. About 18,000 members of the 45,000-strong Mumbai police force have been posted in different parts of the city and 1,000 more have been called in from different parts of the state. Special security arrangements have been made for Lalbaugcha Raja,one of the most popular Ganesh mandals attracting around a crore devotees,including film actors and politicians. Four companies of State Reserve Police,six of CRPF,three companies of Rapid Action Force and 2,500 Home Guard and Civil Defence jawans will help police. Twelve bomb defusing squads and four vans with cameras would roam the city to record suspicious movements,police said. Metal detectors and CCTV cameras had been installed at big Ganesh mandals to keep a close watch on people,they added.
