A practice session to perform at an inter-collegiate festival took a tragic turn when an 18-year-old girl allegedly fell from the terrace of her friend’s apartment in a 12-storey building in Santacruz (East) on Monday afternoon.

The Vakola police have registered an accidental death report in the case. Police said Sejal Rakesh Jain was a first-year management student and lived in Ghatkopar with her parents. On Monday,Jain and her friends met to rehearse for the play to be performed later this week.

Police said around 3.15 pm,Jain got a call on her mobile phone and she moved away from the group. The police said the parapet adjoining the terrace had an extension of a ply sheet that was found broken, indicating that the sheet broke due to the girl’s weight, following which she fell. The girl was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
