13-year-old girl escapes acid attack bid,hunt on for man

A 13-year-old girl from Nalasopara had a narrow escape after an unidentified man attacked her with a bottle of acid Saturday.

A 13-year-old girl from Nalasopara had a narrow escape after an unidentified man attacked her with a bottle of acid Saturday. The girl was studying in her room when she saw a bottle being thrown inside. However,she did not receive any injuries.

The girl,a student of class IX,stays in a ground-floor flat in Gajanan Society,Vijay Nagar police said. It was around 7.30 pm when there was a power cut in the neighbourhood that the girl noticed a bottle being thrown in her direction. Her parents were not home at that time,police said. “The girl said she will be able to identify the man,” police said. In her statement,the girl’s mother said there are goons in the neighbourhood who harass women. She suspects one of the goons to be behind the attack.

Police have registered a case under sections 336 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others),436 (mischief by fire or an explosive substance with an intent to destroy house) of the IPC. A hunt is on to nab the accused.
