In two separate incidents in Muktsar district, two men killed their sons on Saturday midnight. Police officers said that the two victims were drunkards and used to trouble the family a lot.

In the first incident, Angrej Singh (60) of Kala Singh Wala village was allegedly stabbed to death in his sleep by his father Chand Singh (88).

According to police report, Angrej would often demand money from his family. On Saturday, he had come home in an inebriated condition and abused his parents before going to sleep.

Chand Singh is alleged to have stabbed Angrej five times in the throat. The accused is now absconding. “We have lodged a first information report with murder charges against the accused’s father Chand Singh. We are yet to arrest him in the case,” said Jitender Singh, station house officer.

In Nandgarh village, Darshan Singh (75) allegedly killed his 29-year-old son, Karnail Singh, with his 12 mm bore licensed pistol.

Karnail had earlier been thrown out from the family because of his drinking habit and demand for property. “He used to come on a regular basis to our house to trouble us. He even used to fire in the air with his 9mm licensed pistol to intimidate us. At the time of the incident, he came to our house and fired with his gun yet again. My husband also fired in the air to intimidate him. However, it hit him accidentally in his chest,” said Baltej Kaur, Karnail’s mother.

Sub inspector Balbir Singh said Darshan is yet to be arrested and an FIR has been lodged on the statement of Baltej Kaur.
