In the 12 years of being at the helm in Gujarat,Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been able to contribute about Rs 19 crore to the Kanya Kelavani,a programme floated by his government for girls’ education in the state.
Modi contributed the money to the state treasury after 18,000-plus gifts,received by him,were sold off in public auctions,stated an official release here on Wednesday. The data of the gifts received by him date back to November 2011,when he first assumed charge as the CM of the state displacing Keshubhai Patel. Interestingly,the Kanya Kelavni programme was first introduced in the year 2003-04.
On Wednesday,about 3,000 gifts worth Rs 25 lakh received by Modi during the year 2012-13 were deposited in the state treasury,the release added. These gifts are yet to be auctioned.
The release stated that these auctioned items were gifted to the CM on different occasions. The money from this Kanya Kelavni fund is being used for girls’ education in the state.
