Medical representatives, who are members of Chandigarh Medical and Sales Representatives’ Union (CITU),will resort to a day-long strike on August 23 to press for their demands. The call for strike has been given by the national associations of the medical representatives and sales promotion employees of the pharmaceutical companies.
At a press conference held on Wednesday,General Secretary Naginder Kumar said the medical representatives were being wrongly labelled as agents of corruption, whereas they only performed the duty as assigned by their companies to apprise doctors about the availability of new medicines and its pros and cons.
The members demanded that a statutory code for ethical sales and marketing practices be put in place by the union government for pharmaceutical companies. These members also demanded that a statutory provision for stringent action should be there against the unethical practice of pharmaceutical corporate corruption.
The members also put forth their demands to the state governments to ensure effective enforcement of Sales Promotion Employees (conditions of service) Act 1976,including legally amended appointment letters in Form A as identity of sales promotion employees.
