A prominent woman Congress leader was arrested on Saturday for allegedly murdering her brother with the help of her son, daughter and son-in-law. Police said that Paramjit Kaur — the president of the Dehlon Block Women Congress — and her relatives killed her brother,Jaswinder Singh of Sarabha village, with sharp-edged weapons and then threw his body on the Dehlon-Pakhowal road to make his death appear as an accident.

On Saturday, the Jodhan police arrested the Congress leader, her daughter Manpreet Kaur and son-in-law Amarjeet Singh of Kartarpur in Malaud. Her son Jagpreet Singh managed to flee.

According to police, the accused have claimed that Jaswinder Singh was a drug addict and used to demand money from the Congress leader to finance his habit. He had allegedly also stolen valuables from her home. On April 6,Jaswinder Singh allegedly barged into his sister’s house and tried to steal jewellery but his niece Manpreet Kaur spotted him and raised an alarm.

DSP (Dakha) Navreet Singh Virk said that Paramjit Kaur then hit Jaswinder Singh with a sharp-edged weapon and killed him on the spot. Later,to make it appear as a road mishap, she along with her son, daughter and son-in-law took the victim’s body and threw it at a spot, about eight metres from their house,on the Dehlon-Pakowal main road near Gujjarwal village.
