Two electrocuted as high-tension wire falls

LUDHIANA: Two men were electrocuted to death at Kot Gangurai village in Sahnewal on Sunday when a high-tension wire fell on them during a village sports meet. Both died on the spot and were participants in bullock cart racing. The deceased have been identified as Gurdeep Singh,34,and Dharminderpal Sharma,50,residents of Meensa village near Dhuri in Sangrur district.

GCG principal gets 1-year extension

LUDHIANA: Gurminder Kaur,principal of Government College for Girls (GCG),Ludhiana,has been given extension of one year from October 1,2013,to September 30,2014. A written communication in this regard has been received by the college,as per a press release issued on Sunday.

‘Govt move on textile sector to benefit city’

LUDHIANA: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Sunday gave approval to the technological upgradation fund scheme (TUFS) during the 12th plan period with a special focus on powerloom sector of the country. Vinod Thaper,chairman of Knitwear Club,said this would help induce capital investment in the textile sector,and Ludhiana would be benefited in turn.
