Were on their way to Jalandhar bypass on bike : Hit by a speeding private bus : Dead include a 3-yr-old girl
A middle-aged man and his minor granddaughter died while his daughter was seriously injured when they were hit by a speeding bus near the Jalandhar bypass on Sunday evening.
Ashok Kumar (55),a resident of Haibowal,and his granddaughter Vaani (3) died in the accident while his daughter and Vaanis mother Monika (30) got seriously injured when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus on Sunday evening. Monikas other daughter Nancy (5) sustained minor injuries.
The accident occurred around 4 pm when Ashok was going to drop his daughter Monika and her minor daughters at the bus stop on the Jalandhar bypass. When their bike was about to cross the Jassian Chowk,a speeding bus of a private transport company hit,their bike from the rear side and they fell down.
Sources said that while Ashok Kumar and Vaani died on the spot,Monika was rushed to DMC Hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
A resident of Balachaur town,Monika had come to meet her parents in the city along with her two daughters.
After the accident,the people stopped the bus and caught hold of bus driver Sanjeev and called the police. The Salem Tabri police have impounded the vehicle. We are registering a case of causing deaths due to rash and negligent driving against the bus driver, said Salem Tabri SHO Daljit Singh.
Two labourers electrocuted in Haibowal
In a freak accident,two migrant labourers got electrocuted while trying to fix a billboard near the Haibowal Chowk on Sunday afternoon.
The injured have been admitted to the DMC Hospital in a serious condition.
Sources said Sikandar and Arun were on one side and Vivek was on the other side of the billboard. While they were working,the billboard slipped from the hands of Vivek.
The other two labourers,who were on the other side,lost their balance and fell down from the window from the first floor of the building. Sources said that while falling down,Sikandar got entangled in the live electric wires. Arun also got electrocuted but his injuries are not grave.
The Division number 8 SHO Maninder Bedi said that the injured labourers were in serious condition and the doctors have not declared them fit to make the statement to the police. After recording their statements,we will initiate an appropriate case in this connection, SHO Bedi added.
