Traffic police issues 469 challans on New Year eve

Almost 100 were also booked for creating nuisance on roads and playing loud music in vehicles at midnight.

Almost 469 challans were issued by the Ludhiana traffic police for various violations on New Year eve late on Wednesday evening.

As many as 12 special nakas were put up by the police in the bustling areas of the city, including Sarabha Nagar, Model Town, Ferozepur road, in front of malls, and Aarti Chowk.

Out of 469 challans, 67 were for not wearing seatbelts, three for underage driving, 50 for overspeeding, 45 for driving without driving licence, and 59 for wrong parking.

ACP (Traffic) Richa Agnihotri said that “police had publicised its helpline numbers, especially for women facing any problem of eve teasing while returning home from parties late night but no such incident was reported”.

The police put up barricades at various places and entry to Sarabha Nagar was restricted to control hooliganism. The police also told women not to call cabs of OLA and Taxi for Sure as these were not registered. Only Mega Cab service is registered with the Ludhiana police.
