A demolition drive in Jawahar Nagar camp on Wednesday took an ugly turn when three women were injured under disputed scenarios. While residents rued mismanagement and callous attitude of officials,MC official said ‘residents injured themselves trying to demolish the illegal structures on their own’.
Protestors,police and MC officials were were deployed in large numbers during the massive demolition drive to avoid any untoward incident.
The civic body demolished 115 illegal structures on Tuesday and around 245 structures today at Jawahar Camp. Most of illegal structures included toilets,bathrooms and stairs built by people on the road, said Rajkumar,Municipal town planner,Ludhiana MC.
Police and MC officials took great care that no one is injured during the drive but people whose structures were being razed started a hue and cry and said they will demolish their structures themselves and thus got injured, he added.
Raman Dhingra,son of one of the women injured who is currently admitted in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,told Newsline: The doctors are saying her situation will be clear after some hours but MC officials behaved ruthlessly and MTP Rajkumar said there is no value of human life,they just want to complete their work. We are not objecting to removal of illegal structures but there is something called humanity.
Dhingra alleged that his his mother was coming on foot when a part of structure razed by bulldozer fell on her. Another injured woman was taken to Chhabra Hospital and is stable while the third was discharged after a few hours.
