Tewari takes on govt over Buddha Nallah cleaning

Manish Tewari said even the Planning Commission of India had observed that the progress on the project was slow.

Stating that the cleaning process at Buddha Nullah was progressing at a slow pace,Ludhiana MP and the national Congress Spokesperson Manish Tewari today urged the Punjab government to speed up the project. Despite the allocation and availability of funds the government has not been able to keep pace with deadlines,he said.

Tewari said even the Planning Commission of India had observed that the progress on the project was slow. Quoting a letter written to him by the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Ahluwalia,he said: “Progress in the project is clearly slow, probably due to the involvement of three departments”.

The Congress spokesperson said, although the state government has claimed that work for laying pipeline for soil and water conservation was in progress and the project for setting up of STP and laying of sewage system at Machhiwara has been approved, nothing has translated into action at the ground level.

Appealing to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to take the issue seriously and rise above partisan considerations,he said: “We have got the project after lot of effort and now it is the government which had to do the needful”.
