Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has said the UPA government is committed to the development and strengthening of infrastructure in the country.
He was addressing a public meeting at Dangian village in Ludhiana district on Sunday after laying the foundation stone of a road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) worth Rs 4.48 crore.
Tewari said that more than 2 lakh kilometres of new rural roads had been added to the rural road network during the last eight years. An amount of Rs 1,000 crore was being provided annually to Punjab for various welfare and developmental schemes,but the amount was not being fully utilised,he alleged.
He laid the foundation stone of roads from Dangian to Kaunke Kalan which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.48 crore. He said the 8-km road would be completed within nine months.
