The State Information Commission,Punjab,on Wednesday directed the Commissioner,Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to take action against all the concerned Public Information Officers and other officers/officials responsible for the violation of the Right to Information Act.
The case dates back to July 10,2012,when Kuldeep Singh Khaira had sought some documents from the PIO pertaining to the work of providing and laying 80mm thick interlocking tiles octagonal design and construction of footpaths on sides of Gill Road stretching from Campa Cola Chowk to Sidhwan Canal.
Aggrieved with the deficient information supplied by the PIO,the appellant filed First Appeal Commissioner of LMC as First Appellate Authority (FAA) in August 2012. The FAA passed order on September 17,2012 directing the PIO to provide the complete information within 10 days time,free of cost. But PIO chose not to comply with the orders.
In a related,(Appeal Case No. 35/2013),the Commission instructed the Commissioner,LMC to recover the penalty amounting Rs 25,000 from the salary of the PIO Dharam Singh and deposit the same with the government within six weeks.
