Students rescue newborn girl found abandoned in autorickshaw

The division number 2 police registered a case against unidentified accused for abandoning the baby.

A newborn girl was abandoned by unidentified accused in an autorickshaw outside Arya Samaj Mandir near Civil Hospital on Saturday.

Two students, Vineet Bhagat and Puneet Dhawan, heard the cries of the baby and admitted her to Civil Hospital. The baby has been kept under observation for 24 hours. However, initially passersbys too heard cries of the baby and gathered around the vehicle but none rescued the child.

It was after two hours that the two students picked the baby and took her to the hospital.

Babita, a lactating mother in hospital fed the baby. Dr Harpreet Singh, pediatrician at CH said the girl is hardly two days old and is healthy and normal.
