However, Ghubaya could not meet most of the family members as they were off to Himachal to bring back the body, while his ailing mother Harmohinder Kaur had been admitted to the hospital.

“I knew Rocky as a voter and not as a gangster. In fact, I had no clue about his criminal past. His village was earlier in Jalalabad constituency from where I used to contest the Vidhan Sabha polls and he was quite helpful during my election campaign. That’s how our relationship developed.”
Ghubaya further said, “Later, when I contested from Ferozepur parliamentary constituency, we met again and hence our interaction continued. My relationship with him was as a voter of the area and nothing else.”
The SAD MP went on to say that he treated Rocky as a family member and had even attended his son’s marriage but was totally unaware of the number of police cases registered against him.

As per information, while Rocky used to live in his Badha Lake based house in Fazilka his mother and sister stayed in Jhujian which is 10 km away.
Amidst all this, Congress and BJP were quick to pounce on SAD for showing a soft corner for the slained gangster. Blaming the party for the rise of criminals in Punjab, Congress MLA and former CLP leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar said, “ When a gangster can have two gunman provided by the Punjab Police, what else is needed to prove that police are shielding them . Above all, many such gangsters are openly catering to social networking sites while sitting inside a high-security jail and hatching murders. It simply shows that criminals have no fear of police. There is a total failure of law and order in the state.” Echoing similar views, BJP MLA from Fazilka Surjeet Kumar Jayani whose victory margin was cut short to just 1,600 votes by Rocky, who had contested as an independent candidate in 2012 assembly polls, said,” I don’t want to say much for a person who has died. But I would like to sum it up in just one line, ‘jaisi karni vaisi bharni’. Now, it is up to the police to investigate the case and find out his killers. Law will take its own course.”
