Railways moots proposal to double number of coaches on Amritsar-Haridwar Shatabdi

The Divisional Railway Manager ( DRM ) Vishwesh Chaubey,on Thursday announced that approval was being sought from higher authorities for a proposal to double the number of bogies in the Jan Shatabdi that operates from Amritsar to Hardwar and the Hemkunt Express Jammu Tawi to Rishikesh train.

Chaubey met with industrialists to resolve their issues at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings(CICU ) Complex,Focal Point Ludhiana. He also announced that construction work of the foot rail bridge connecting civil lines and clock tower sides will be completed by the end of 2011. Construction of the remaining portions of Motorable Railway Over Bridge (ROB) between the Old City and the Civil Lines areas will commence latest by December 2011,the DRM said.

The railway manager said on receiving recommendations and financial share from the Punjab Government,the proposal for the rail over bridge from Veer Palace on Chandigarh to G T Road will be submitted to higher authorities for approval on priority basis. The recommendations to widen Dhuri bridge crossing to mitigate the problems being faced by industrialists will also be submitted to the competent authority for approval.

Avtar Singh General Secretary CICU presented a memorandum urging authorities to not check entire lot of goods by Sale Tax,Custom and Excise Duty and Railway Police Staff. Such checking if any may be done on random basis at the railway booking office premises,he suggested.

The industrialist said hosiery goods booked for long destination stations were lying in the open for a number of days causing damage and loss due to change in weather. Cases were also broken due to loading and unloading and there is no fix time to reach their destination,they complained. The industrialists requested the railways to increase the number of coaches during peak hosiery season ( August to January) every year to ensure time bound delivery. A special compartment should be reserved for Senior Citizen passengers in every train to enable them to enjoy their journey comfortably,the industrialists said.

A train from Amritsar to Ajmer and vice versa with convenient timings should be introduced,they added.
