To oppose the rules issued by the district transport office (DTO),school private van operators went on strike on Thursday. More than 4,000 private vans of various schools were on strike,thus causing problem to parents and children. However,they will be back to work on Friday.
The strike was to protest against the safety regulations issued by the district transport office: getting van insured,pollution certificate,number of students to be taken in van not more than 20.
Darshan Sabharwal,president of Schools Vans Operators Association,told Ludhiana Newsline,We ferry just 25-30 students in a van. We cannot agree to all the regulations issued by the DTO.
