It was a big day for 64 physically challenged persons, both men and women when they got appointment letters from Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (JMC) authorities on Saturday. The Punjab government had employed them in class IV category employees.
Elated new recruits were expressing their happiness through various signs and even sharing the same on social media with their nears and dear ones. They have been appointed in the various wings of MC as technicians, gardeners and attendants. The selection was done on the basis of merit list and as per their educational qualifications, said MC officials.
Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh, Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri, Jalandhar North MLA Bawa Henry and MC Commissioner Basant Garg handed over the appointment letters to the newly recruited. They said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had promised jobs to the physically challenged persons in the state government ahead of the Assembly polls and the action had started on them.
MLA Pargat Singh said this was only the beginning and many such appointments would be made in near future.
President of National Federation of Blind Gurpreet Singh Chahal thanked Pargat Singh for his role.
