A constable with Sadar police station, deployed as gunman of former state BJP chief Kamal Sharma, was found dead at his house in Ferozepur under mysterious circumstances.
Krishan Lal, 42, reportedly sustained two bullets in his chest. According to the police, the bullets were fired from Lal’s service revolver.
SSP Ferozepur Manvinder Vir Singh said an FIR on murder charges against unknown persons have been lodged in the incident on the complaint of Lal’s father Sardara Ram. The SSP said they were inspecting various aspects of the incident.
Police have ruled out to be a case of suicide, it is learnt.
Lal’s wife Radha Rani said: “Lal had returned from duty around 11.30 pm, and had gone out to meet someone after a quick dinner. He had asked me not to lock the door so that he could come in later. Around 2.30 am, when I came out I saw him lying in a pool of blood in the verandah. I raised an alarm, and neighbours and family members took him to hospital where he was declared dead.
Kamal Sharma, when contacted, said, “Krishan Lal was on duty with me last night. I was at a religious function and he went home in a good mood after it was over late night. I am shocked to hear this news.”
Sharma added that Lal had joined duty as his gunman about a month ago. Besides his wife, Lal is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Ferozepur Parminder Singh Pinki demanded a CBI inquiry into the case. He alleged that Lal was attached with the former BJP president without any official order.
