High drama was witnessed on the last day of the ongoing Youth and Heritage Festival of Panjab University at Government College for Girls.
A student after giving her performance fainted. However, as per eyewitnesses, there was no arrangement for first aid for students.
“She fainted due to exhaustion and nobody knew where to take her. There was no doctor on emergency duty in college dispensary and we kept on giving her water only,” said an eyewitness.
However, the authorities claimed that it took few minutes for the doctor to come but he was on duty. “An ambulance is usually on stand-by during the fest but we had an emergency doctor within campus. It took few minutes for the doctor to arrive,” said a teacher while principal Gurminder Kaur did not respond to phone calls.
In the evening session, Punjab Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was the chief guest. In his address, he said that GCG Ludhiana was one of the best colleges of Punjab. “I am proud of this college bagging top ranks in PU results,” he said, adding that he would sanction a grant of Rs 2 crore to this college for development.
