To check tax evasion at the railway station,police and excise department have joined hands to plug the loopholes.
At a meeting chaired by Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh along with officers of the excise department,Singh said,Peti mafia gang at railway station is very active and they are causing a loss of revenue worth crores to the state exchequer. This gang is taking away the unbilled goods from railway station Laduwal and Gill without paying even a penny of tax to the excise officials.
The excise officials have been attacked by the peti mafia gang a number of times when they tried to stop them for checking.
In addition to this,liquor smuggling was also going on at a large scale in the city,said the Police Commissioner.
Singh said police would work in co-ordination with the excise officials and would curb tax evasion.
He asked the residents to co-operate and inform the police about such activities.
