Protesting against MLA Simarjit Singh Bains and demanding action against him for making their “fake sting operation videos”, the Patwaari and Kanugo Union of district Ludhiana on Tuesday announced their strike would continue till Bains was not booked by the police for “harassing” them.

Staging a protest against Bains outside the office of deputy commissioner on Tuesday, the patwaaris also announced that protests would be held on October 4 and 6 outside the offices of additional deputy commissioners at Ludhiana, Khanna and Raikot.  The union also announced a state-level meeting on October 6 to discuss further protest schedule.

Since September 15, patwaaris in Ludhiana district have been on strike, causing inconvenience to people visiting revenue offices for work. Rupinder Singh Grewal, president of the union, said, “He is ignoring development work in his constituency and is busy harassing us for cheap publicity and attention. His supporters make videos illegally and then post them on social media and use derogatory words for us.”

The patwaaris alleged that that instead of informing the Vigilance department about the matter, Bains took the matter in his own hands and blackmailed them making their videos.
