A Lahore-based kabaddi club will take part in a rural sports festival in Punjab next month. This comes after a controversy over a kabaddi match between India and Pakistan in the recently held Kabbadi World Cup at Badal village.

During the world cup match, Pakistan team had announced that if the decision of the game is not fair, they will stop participating in this tournament from next year.

However, a rural sports festival is being organised by Jarkhar Sports Academy, a private body in the multi-purpose stadium of Jarkhar village from January 15 to 18. Apart from teams from various academies of Punjab and Haryana, hockey and kabaddi teams from Pakistan will also participate.

Apart from hockey and kabaddi, shooting, basketball, volleyball competitions will also be organised. On Saturday, event organisers released a poster regarding the tournament. Narinderpal Singh Sandhu, chairman of academy, said that Rs 1 lakh prize will be given to the winning hockey team which has been sponsored by Hero Motocorp while best player of the tournament will get a motorbike.

Avon cycles will also distribute 101 cycles among the players apart from other prizes. Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh will perform during the inaugural event on January 16, said Balvir Singh, president of the academy.
