Out of 23 FIRs in a day,16 pertain to drugs seizure

Intake of drugs by Punjabis has become a cause for concern. While Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal wants to make Punjab a drug-free state,the reality check is different.

On Wednesday,the Ludhiana police registered a total of 23 cases in different matters. Out of these,16 were related to seizure of drugs from people at different nakas. These drugs included charas,ganja,poppy husk,smuggled liquor and habit-forming drugs. More than 30 kgs of poppy husk was seized in a single day from different people.

Intake of drugs has become a part of life for the residents and a number of them keep their dose along whenever they travel.

In once such case,Sadar police station caught one Babli with 4.2 kg poppy husk near the railway station. ASI Rajinder Singh said he was bringing this stock in a black bag and wanted to run away when he saw the police. Daresi police station caught one Deepak Kumar,a resident of Ghati Balmiki,with 1.25 kgs of powder,which is an intoxicant. Deepak was taking it for his regular clients.

Karan Kumar was caught near Pohir village with 300 capsules of Parvon Spas while Karnail Singh of Mangat village was caught with 16 kgs of poppy husk by Meharbaan police sation staff near Mangat village.

Preetam Singh was caught with 4 kgs of poppy husk from Rishi Nagar area while Balwinder Singh was caught with 10 kgs of poppy husk from Sidhwan Bet road. Balwinder revealed that he used to supply this stock to his clients who consume it on a regular basis.

Apart from this,Ravinder Singh was caught with habit-forming drugs from Sherpur Chowk.

Ravi Kumar was caught with 750 grams of intoxicant powder while Deepak was caught with 55 grams of powder from Dhuri line area. Raj Kumar was caught with 15 grams of smack from BRS Nagar telephone exchange road.

Sunny of Abdulla Pur Basti was caught with 4.5 kgs of poppy husk from Arora Palace road while a woman,Charan Kaur,a resident of Janta Nagar,was caught with 2 kgs of poppy husk from Gill Garden Marriage Palace area. She was carrying it in a plastic bag and was reluctant to show her bag initially.

Apart from this,charas,smuggled liquor and habit-forming drugs were also seized from various parts of the city.
