One migrant labourer died while two were injured when the scaffolding of a high-rise commercial complex collapsed on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Kundan Kumar while the two injured have been identified as Sudhir and Shiv Kumar. The three were rushed to the nearby Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. While Kundan is said to have died on the way,the condition of the other two is said to be critical.
The said complex is situated near the Kailash Chowk where the old court complex used to be. This shopping complex is said to be owned by the Bharti Mittal group. Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh along with area police rushed to the spot immediately.
The incident is said to have occurred in the afternoon when some five workers were working on the 11th floor of the building. Suddenly, the support of the scaffolding is said to have given way and the five workers fell down into water which is said to be some six feet deep. Two workers,Birju and Vikas, are said to have clung on to the steel and iron rods while the other three fell down. Workers near by jumped into the water to save the other three.
While Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari announced an investigation into the matter, the Police Commissioner said two contractors B K Kashyap and Sanjay Rao under whose supervision the work was being done had been booked.
Hargobind Tewari,a senior leader of Parvasi Bhalai Board, demanded compensation for the deceased and the injured. Accidents like these have happened in the past too,and we have been constantly demanding safety of the workers, especially at these kind of sites. However, there has been no action so far. We also want that all those found guilty of this lapse should be booked.
