The Communist Party of India of Ludhiana District on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the causes of death of Abhishek Banerjee who died under mysterious circumstances on June 21 this year.

Police had termed the death a case of drug overdose. However, the Viscera report received by the family recently mentions that no chemicals were found. After this report, the case requires through probe without any delay, said Kartar Singh Bowani, secretary CPI.

Abhishek’s father, Dr Banerjee had  been saying form the very beginning that he had been murdered because he had told the name of some drug peddlers to the police. Banerjee said that though his son had become an addict, he was cured at a Delhi-based drug de-addiction centre and had even got three drug peddlers arrested in January.

Dr Arun Mitra, D P Maur assistant Secrtaries, Ramesh Rattan and Gurnam Sidhu demanded that it should also be probed that why Abhishek was not provided any security at that time.

Dr Banerjee meanwhile alleged that case was never probed properly as he said that the main accused as mentioned by him was never probed properly and in the special investigation team (SIT), one officer is from Ludhiana who had already probed the case and had labelled it as a drug over dose case. “How can she probe it properly,”  questioned Dr Banerjee.

Investigation also show that SIM of the main accused was in a fake name. Dr Banerjee demanded thorough probe in this matter as he stated that his son was murdered while police was in a hurry to close the case by calling it a drug overdose case.
