Five miscreants posing as officials of Gujarat Police looted 200 tolas of gold and Rs 10 lakh in cash from the residence of an Asaram Bapu follower in Model Town area on Wednesday afternoon. This was the same residence Asaram used to frequent during his visits to Ludhiana. Asaram’s son, Naraya Sai, had allegedly taken refuge at this house before his arrest in 2013. It belongs to Raj Kumar Agnihotri, owner of an electronics showroom. The Gujarat and Delhi police had previously raided Agnihotri’s residence when they were on the lookout for the father-son duo in 2013 in rape and sexual exploitation cases.
On Wednesday, Agnihotri alleged that five miscreants brandishing weapons entered his home and held his family hostage. He claimed that the miscreants made away with 200 tolas of gold worth around Rs 10 lakh in cash. Agnihotri added that he, along with his two sons, was at his shop in Basti Jodhewal at the time of the incident. The miscreants came in a Swift car at his Model Town residence and held his wife Pushpa and two daughters-in-law, Heena and Ishu, hostage. His wife informed him on phone after they had fled.
Agnihotri further alleged that the accused told his wife that they are from Gujarat police and have come to make inquiries in the Asaram case. They overpowered the house security guard Buddhram when he rushed into the house after hearing the women scream. As per the family, the accused threatened to shoot them and asked not to move.
The family told police that the five accused were wearing white shirts and beige trousers. Two of them were Sikhs and all of them were carrying weapons. Ludhiana police commissioner JS Aulakh said that no CCTV cameras were installed at the residence but footage from nearby buildings are being checked. And FIR against unidentified persons was registered at Model Town police station.
