In a path-breaking resolution,the Panjab University has decided to provide medical cover worth Rs 2 lakh to all its students from the next session. Furthermore,the insurance benefits will extend to the students parents as well.
Medical insurance had been a long pending demand of the students and the faculty has finalised its implementation after much persuasion. Dean Students Welfare Professor Naval Kishore said: The facility is not only for the new students,but will cover all students of the university.
The Rs 2-lakh policy will cover hospitalisation charges as well as accidental risk. In total,the students will pay Rs 120 per year as premium towards the insurance policy.
Students Council president Sahil Nanda said: We are glad that the authorities have finally accepted our demand of a medical cover for students.
