MC tehbazaari inspector ‘thrashed’ by shopkeepers

The shopkeepers alleged that the inspector asked for bribe and when they said no, he started throwing away their goods.

Gurmeet Singh, an inspector in tehbazaari wing of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, was allegedly thrashed by residents of Daresi on Friday.

He claimed that he had gone to Daresi area and asked the shopkeepers to remove encroachments. But the area residents and shopkeepers started manhandling him, he alleged.

However, the shopkeepers alleged that the inspector asked for bribe and when they said no, he started throwing away their goods.

Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal state general secretary Sunil Mehra has come in support of the shopkeepers. He along with other shopkeepers staged protest against the Municipal Corporation and police.

Inspector Om Parkash, SHO at Daresi police station, said the police were investigating the matter and would register an FIR against the people who manhandled the government employee and stopped him from performing his duty.

Meanwhile, Ashwani Sahota, chairman, Municipal Ministerial Employees Association, said the attack on Municipal Corporation  employees would not be tolerated.
