The tehbazaari team of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation removed encroachments under Cheema Chowk flyover on Tuesday.

From Thursday, one side of the road under flyover will be closed for traffic as bridge, almost 25 years old, will be undergoing urgent repair and renovation.

Thus to de-congest the traffic on one side, the MC removed more than 50 encroachments from roadside, including slaughter houses which were running illegally.

Area councillor Amanpreet Kaur Ghayal had an argument with the MC team as her own goods were lying on the road pavement. The MC team was pressured not to remove the councillor’s encroachment.

MC superintendent J S Sekhon told Newsline, “Area councillor called us twice not to remove the logs of wood encroaching upon the road at Cheema Chowk but they were finally removed.”

The commuters from Partap Chowk to Cheema Chowk now need to go from Sherpur chowk as one side of the bridge at Cheema Chowk will be closed for the next 45 days.

The traffic from Partap Chowk to Cheema Chowk will have to cross Dholewal Chowk, then Sherpur Chowk and will turn to Samrala Chowk side and then reach Cheema Chowk.
