With the mercury shooting up,the power cuts in different parts of the city today increased to five hours while many areas remained powerless last night because of some local faults. Though Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced three-hour power cut in Ludhiana, the cuts were far more than the timings announced by PSPCL and after regular intervals.

Apart from this, local faults further added to the trouble and cuts in many colonies thus exceeded seven hours in a day as well.

Because of a local fault at Pakhowal Road and BRS Nagar last night,a large part of Pakhowal Road colonies and even many blocks of BRS Nagar remained powerless throughout the night.

Power was off at Pakhowal Toad at 8 pm on Sunday evening and restored after 11 hours at 7 am this morning.

However, the residents still had no respite as they faced power cuts from Patiala as well during the day time despite having had a sleepless night.

At BRS Nagar,Blocks E,G and a few more area had no light throughout the night and power was restored after 12 hours at about 9 am this morning. Again, overloading of transformers was the reason cited there.

Meanwhile, during day hours the power controller at Patiala office changed the power cut timings, thus causing inconvenience to residents of the entire city.

Commenting on the power cuts during night hours,Chief Engineer K N Sharma said,“Whenever the load increases during night and day hours, load shedding is done in a staggered way in different areas. This has to be done once the frequency falls.”

He,however, stated that local faults are also being reported in many areas.

Regarding the whole night power cut in many areas he said,“It was a hidden fault which could not be repaired in the night hours.”
