Ahead of MC polls, chairman of Parvasi Board Ram Chander Yadav on Thursday asked the officials of the district food and civil supplies department to start making ration cards of migrants.
More than 45% of migrants are still without voter cards. The Election Commission has decided to do a fresh survey. Hence, they will be making voter cards in two-three months, said Yadav who was in the city. For more than one and a half year, the food and civil supplies department has stopped making ration cards of the migrants. But recently the Chief Minister chaired a meeting in which he directed the officials to start the work again. I came here to convey the same message to the officers.
For all those migrants who have no proof of residence and whose landlords are also not giving any guarantee,we have evolved a way out. Signatures by an area councillor,or the Parvasi Board chairman,a copy of bank account will be helpful in getting a ration card made, Yadav said.
The board chairman did not rule out discrimination against the migrants. However,a lot of improvement has been seen now, he added.
On making a guesthouse for migrants which can act as a temporary accommodation for them till the time they found a house,Yadav said,We are looking for space. This will be open to all those migrants who come in the city in search of a job and have no accommodation. Once they settle down, they can shift into their rented accommodation. The CM has asked the Principal Secretary to convene a meeting with the industrialists so that they can start making accommodation for the migrants near the workplace.
