Ludhiana: Two injured as rival transport companies open fire at each other over bus timings

The Salem Tabri Police registered a case of attempt to murder in this context.

In yet another incident of rivalry between two transport companies – Highway and Satluj – two groups opened fire at each other in Ludhiana on Saturday at the crowded Jalandhar Bypass Chowk. Two people suffered injuries as they attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons.

The Salem Tabri Police registered a case of attempt to murder in this context. They have also recovered one countrymade pistol, cartridges and sharp-edged weapons from the spot.

Staff of Satluj Bus Company and Highway Company had an old rivalry over the issue of picking passengers and timings. The contractual staff of both the bus companies had in the past clashed over picking up passengers.

On Saturday, around 4-5 persons led by Sukha of Alamgir turned up at Jalandhar Bypass and attacked staff of Satluj bus company. They allegedly fired gunshots in which manager of Sutlej Bus Company Inderjit Singh sustained bullet injuries.

In the meantime, the staff of Sutlej Bus Company also attacked the rival group with sharp-edged weapons that left one injured. Two persons, including Inderjit, were admitted at the civil hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

Assistant Commissioner of police (ACP, North) Ramneesh Chaudhary said the police have reached the spot and intervened to avert the clash. Six persons were arrested, added Chaudhary.
