According to the police, the accused Arun Kumar is mentally disturbed and he killed Sanjiv in his sleep.

An FIR against Arun has been registered under section 303 of IPC (Whoever, being under sentence of imprisonment for life, commits murder, shall be punished with death) at division number 7 police station. he accused had previously killed his sister-in-law Usha and her daughter-in-law Poonam in March 2012. The victim and his cousin Rakesh Kumar were convicted for beheading a man in 2011. He was also serving life imprisonment. Police said that both Arun and Sanjiv were good friends. The incident occurred around 6 am when Arun went for bath.

After taking a bath, he went to the temple inside the jail and recited prayers. Later, he went to a construction site in jail and picked up a brick and came inside the barracks. He again recited some prayers and washed the brick with clean water. He repeatedly hit Sanjiv on his head with the brick and continued doing so till he died. Sanjiv was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
