The local bodies department on Tuesday passed orders to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to exempt residents from interest and penalty on pending water and sewage bills. Ludhiana MC sources told Newsline that almost Rs 200 crore are pending for recovery from city residents who are using water and sewage connections without paying bills.
Now, of the Rs 200 crore, almost Rs 80 crore will not be recovered as per exemption orders from local bodies department. Joint commissioner P S Ghuman said, “The residents have a golden opportunity and now they can pay their pending water and sewage bills till March 31 without any interest or penalty. Decision on recovery of interest and penalty will be taken in the coming days.”
MC has formed special teams to recover pending house tax, water and sewage bills and property tax.
Various councillors during house meeting raised the issue and an agenda was also proposed for exemption of interest and penalty on water and sewage bills which has now been accepted.
