The iris is in full bloom now. Look at the curious shape of the bloom and it is for this character that it is also called Flag flower. It gives best effect when planted in a group form, near a lily pond. It grows equally well in shade conditions. The petals come in an attractive combination of blue, yellow and white. It is available in the contrasting blue and white and red and white combination as well. While planting, take care that you buy only the varieties suitable for the plains. The hill iris will bear small bloom in this region and more of vegetative growth. After the bloom is over the bulbs should be extracted from soil, dipped in bavistin solution, made by mixing bavistin at two gram to a litre of water, for two hours. It should then be dried in shade and stored at cool place.
* Will this rain affect my mango? Can we take any preventive measure to save it?
Dont worry, the rain is not that heavy to affect mango crop. The flowers at most of the places are either opening or about to open. Such weather does discourage the pollinators but the offence is not that much to cause any permanent damage.
* I had sprayed my mango against disease and insects but then there was rain. Should I repeat the spraying? I had sprayed karathane and thiodan.
You will have to repeat the spraying as both the chemicals are contact chemicals and get washed.
* Will this rain wipe out the mango mealy bug that appeared a few days back? What is the natural time of its getting killed?
This rain will do no harm to mango mealy bug and it will go on as such. The time for it to come down and lay eggs starts in the middle of April. After laying the eggs the insect dies.
* Going by the weather, can I multiply my areca palm by dividing the roots? If no,then which is the best time and if yes then any precaution I can take?
