Knitwear Club members have asked Police Commissioner S S Chauhan to provide more security in areas like Dal Bazaar,Chawal Bazaar,Wait Ganj,Bajwa Nagar,Tilak Nagar,Hazuri Road,Madhopuri etc.

Rajinder Bhushan Maini, senior vice-president of the club, said,“This is our peak season and a number of clients come from both outside and within Punjab to make purchases. They often carry cash along. However, robberies happening every now and then are a big threat for these dealers.”

Maini made the statement in reaction to Monday’s incident in which a hosiery dealer was robbed at gun point. He said that dealers are reluctant to carry cash and because of this, the hosiery business may suffer in this winter season.

A number of robbery cases have occurred in the past as well,he added.

The dealers stated that security needs to be spruced up in these areas so that hosiery traders can feel secure.
