Hawara acquitted by local court

Booked for assassination of the then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, he was also booked by Focal Point police.

Babbar Khalsa militant Jagtar Singh Hawara, currently lodged at Tihar Jail, on Tuesday was acquitted in a case registered against him under the Explosives Act.

He was produced before the court of additional sessions judge Sanjiv Joshi through video conferencing while his counsel Jaspal Singh Manjhpur was present in the court.

Booked for assassination of the then Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, he was also booked by Focal Point police on January 28, 1995, under sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Act. The police claimed recovery of 7 kg RDX and 12 gelatin rods from him, and submitted a chargesheet in the court in 2006. On March 30, 2011, charges were framed against Hawara.

Court employee Prabhjit Singh, inspector Narinderjit Singh, inspector Gurinderjit Singh, inspector Shiv Charan, ASI Kuldeep Singh and constable Ravinder Singh were produced in the court as witnesses.
