Satish Kumar,a resident of Ghumar Mandi, was shot dead by two unknown persons on Monday morning. Kumar was shot during the early hours when he had come to the nearby Shiv Mandir to pay obeisance.
He used to work as a hair dresser and live near the temple. Kumars body was found sprawled on the steps of the temple, with a bullet lodged in his head.
Senior police officials, including Commissioner Ishwar Chander Sharma,DCP Ashish Choudhry,ADCP Kuwinder Singh,Swapan Sharma and ACP Gurpreet Kaur Purewal reached the crime spot immediately. A dog squad and fingerprint experts were pressed into action while the police lodged an FIR against two unknown persons.
DCP Choudhry informed,The pujari at the temple saw the killers. We have been told that that while the face of one of the killers was covered, the other had his face bare. They went up to Sharma and began threatening him. Then one of the them caught his arm while the other shot him in the head. Old enmity seems to be the reason behind the murder.
Residents of the area said that Kumar was well connected with the police and would help people solve their issues related to the police. This was probably why he had earned some enemies.
The early morning shooting sent shock waves through the area. Mahender Sharma, the pujari at the temple, said that the killers had come on a scooter and Satish had cried out for help.
Hearing the cries,Sharma came out of the temple and just then the killers fired at Satish and fled.
