G.K. Rai District and Session Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority has informed that to provide free legal aid to poor and needy persons and create awareness among the people,Legal Aid Clinics would be set up in the all villages,Kanugo Circles of the district and District Headquarter in phased manner.
Rai addressed a meeting at New Court Complex here today to prepare the plan of action for 2009-10. M.S. Virdi Additional District Session Judge,Munish Singal Additional District Session Judge,Jatinder Pal Singh Wahniwal Civil Judge Senior Division,Lachhman Singh CJM,Manpreet Singh Chhatwal SDM (East),Prem Chand SDM (West),Mahinder Singh BDPO Ludhiana-1,Dr Santosh Kumar Nayak,Principal G.H.G. Institute of Law for Women Sidhwan Bet,Arvind Markan ADA (Legal) and Dr Amrit Cheema Senior Lecturer University Institute of Law Regional Center Ludhiana also attended the meeting.
Judge Rai informed that in the first phase Legal Aid Clinics would be set up at Kangoo circles,Law Colleges and in the district Court Complex. He said that 6 Model Legal Aid Clinics will be set up at Gill,Mullanpur,Jagraon,Sahnewal,Samrala and Sidhwan Bet. He said that 2 Sarpanches /Panches,one Advocate and two students would be included in each Legal Aid Clinic. Besides this,a Model Free Legal Aid Clinic would be set up at district headquarter,in which two Judges,two lawyers and one social worker will be included. He also said that one member shall be a woman in each of the clinic. He said that the working time of these clinics will be from 4.00 PM to 6.00 P.M. twice a week. The clinic will impart free legal aid to applicant and applications would be sent to the Model Aid Clinic in Nodal Center at Ludhiana for further processing.
The judge said that to provide free legal aid to the people,a comprehensive campaign will be started in the district. He also informed that seminars and literacy camps would be organized on the subject of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act 2007,Protection of women from Domestic Violence Act 2005,persons with Disabilities (Equal Protection of Rights & Full Participation) Act.
