After Tata and Dish,BSNL’s out with its IPTV services in the tricity of Chandigarh,Panchkula & Mohali, and for this,it’s using equipment from Aksh. Speaking at the launch, P.K. Paliwal,Chief General Manager,Punjab Telecom Circle,BSNL informed,”With this partnership,BSNL would help increase the reach of IPTV to many homes. Aksh is already providing IPTV and VOIP services in Delhi and Mumbai, under an agreement with MTNL.” In this service, the TV channels are encoded in IP format and delivered to the TV using a set top box. IPTV services also includes video on demand which is similar to watching video CD/DVDs using a VCD/DVD player. “IPTV service helps you control television the way you want. It is now you,who decide what to watch and also when to watch,” mentioned Paliwal adding that all you need to have for IPTV service,is a TV set,a BSNL landline connection with broadband connectivity. The Set Top Box which is required to encode the TV channels will be installed at the customer end. The monthly charges at present will be Rs.150 p.m. in which a total of 120 TV channels would be available. Refundable security deposit per Set Top Box is Rs.999. There’s also a special promotional offer wherein customer booking for IPTV Service this February will be required to pay only 50 per cent of installation charges,i.e. only Rs.125. A new date
There’s a change. What was earlier slotted for the month of February has been shifted to March. The Punjab International Film Festival (PIFF) will now be held from March 20 to March 22,2009 at Mohali. Earlier this program was scheduled for February 13 to 15,2009. This change is in effect as a result of Stardust Awards being organized on February 15 in Mumbai. Many Bollywood celebrities invited for PIFF are also planning to attend the Stardust Awards, hence the date change, says a spokesperson. Reportedly, evergreen star,Dev Anand, who will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Punjab International Film Festival,is also being bestowed with a similar honour at the Stardust awards. Justifying the new dates, the organizers say the last Sunday of February will witness the Filmfare Awards, followed by Holi in the second week of March. That narrows down the choice to these dates, they added.
