Following the directions by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to schools to follow norms ensuring safe transportation of school students, the city schools organized counselling session for drivers on Monday.
A refresher course was conducted by Safe School Foundation at BCM Arya Senior Secondary School.
General health check-up, eye check-up, psychological check-up, other related tests were conducted by the team of Safe School Foundation. Training in first aid, fire safety, road safety and disaster management were provided to the drivers, conductors and attendants. More than 100 drivers were trained in etiquette, manners that must be maintained for ensuring the safety of school children.
Similarly, a counselling session of safe transportation of children was held for drivers at Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines.
Dr Kamaljit Soi, vice-chairman of the Punjab State Road Safety Council and member of European Road Safety Council said that two refresher courses are supposed to be conducted every year by every school to ensure safety of school children. He said that the target is to conduct more than 1,000 refresher courses in next six months to ensure the safety of school children in Punjab.
Soi is also the custodian of safe school vahan policy and is helping the High Court in implementing it.
