Fire tenders reach electronics market without water

Ludhiana fire department once again stood exposed when fire brigades reached to douse flames at Electronics Market,Sadar Bazaar late on Tuesday without water.

Ludhiana fire department once again stood exposed when fire brigades reached to douse flames at Electronics Market,Sadar Bazaar late on Tuesday without water.

Around 9.30 pm on Tuesday,a four-storey building in the market,New Gumber Electric Store caught fire due to short circuit. The fire gutted down the whole building as fire brigades reached the spot without water or torches or ladder to control the fire.

Raj Kishan Gumber,owner of a shop said,“The fire brigades came without any equipments. It was only when neighbours connected the water pipes that the flames were doused by 4 am.”

He added that the second vehicle was a mini-vehicle. “Had neighbours not contributed,it would have been a bigger tragedy. It was only after we called area SHO Surinder Mohan that the fire department got serious and called for more vehicles.” He said,some firemen were also under the influence of alcohol. He estimated that the total loss would be around Rs 50 lakh.

Bhupinder Singh,assistant divisional fire officer,said,“We parked the vehicles at faraway spot and took four hours to douse the flames. There was no problem with our equipments.”
