A farmer identified as Mohinder Singh, 45, of village Sangowal who attempted suicide on Friday died late on Saturday. He consumed some poisonous chemical and died undergoing treatment.
Reportedly the farmer was under debt after his crops damaged due to unseasonal rainfall in recent months. The family members of the deceased told police that he was under depression after his crops were destroyed due to rainfall last month.
Amarjit Singh father of deceased said that his son was extremely distressed and no compensation had arrived yet for destroyed crops from government.
He was worried about the marriage of his two daughters and education expenses of his son. He owned four acres of land while 15 acres were contractual.
The Sadar Police filed the proceedings under section 174 of CrPC and the post mortem of the deceased was conducted at civil hospital.
