In a rare incident,a team from CAPE India rescued an injured mongoose from a factory on GT Road late Saturday evening.
The team, led by Dr Sandeep Jain, chief coordinator,CAPE India & Special Officer,Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (Govt of India),got a tip-off from Harish Sharma,a factory owner, that a mongoose was entangled in threads and trying to free itself.
We tried to contact district forest officer but he was not available,so we informed CWW Punjab about the mongoose and then reached the vacant plot with green vegetation opposite the factory where mongoose was stuck. The mongoose was attacking anyone trying to go near it and its one foot was bleeding, said Dr Jain.
Mongoose is a protected species under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection
Act,1972. We got a hooked rod and brought the mongoose out from the plot. With another road,he was kept away and some weeds and thread were removed. Then he was overpowered with the help of a bag and the threads were cut open, and the mongoose was released into its natural habitat, added Dr Jain.
