Even as the administration is gearing up for the sarpanch elections,Punjab Cabinet Minister Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon honoured members of 52 panchayats,who have been elected unanimously,on Monday. In Ludhiana, of the 958 panchayats,127 have been elected unanimously.
These are maximum number of panchayats in any constituency in Ludhiana. And I honoured them for their effort at my house today, Dhillon said. The minister ad earlier announced that a Rs 2 lakh grant will be given to all those panchayats that are elected unanimously. Dhillon stated that he stands by his decision and he will be distributing this grant from his own quota once the elections will be over. Meanwhile,a total of 1,439 booths have been formed for conducting elections. ADC(D) Kamalpreet Brar said: For us all the booths are important because in sarpanch elections,we need to be extra cautious. The SDMs are deciding at local level regarding the senstivity of the booths.
More than 2 SAD supporters are contesting from almost every village and hence tension is apprehended because the groups might clash among each other. SAD leaders stated that Congress was hard to find candidates and hence in most of the villages it is SAD versus SAD.
