Naval Kishore Chibber today defeated his rivals to secure the post of District Bar Association’s president. Kishore bagged 540 votes while his nearest rival,Ashok Mittal secured 434 votes followed by SK Pathak,who managed to garner 316 votes,Rana Harjasdeep Singh picking up 252 votes and Anil Kaushal managing 51 votes. Chibber is backed by MLA,Ludhiana West,and lawyer Harish Rai Dhanda who before joining active politics enjoyed a stronghold on the DBA.

Out of a total of nearly 1885 lawyers,1597 lawyers came out to elect a new DBA from a total of 32 candidates in the fray. Dhanda and former MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon,who is also a bar member,cast their ballot today.

The polling began at 9 in the morning today and ended at 4.30 in the evening. Counting ran late into the night and so did the celebrations by the winning candidates. Counting was still on at the time of filing of this report.

So while Gupta get to be the president after Paropkar Singh Ghuman,the post of secretary has been bagged by Gurpreet Singh Virk,who secured 474 votes and beat Jagmohan Singh (443 votes),Sanjeev Malhotra (330 votes),Deepjot Singh (158 votes),Gurmeet Singh Ghuman (112 votes) and Jagdeep Singh (68votes).

Similarly,ND Chopra emerged as a clear-cut winner for the post of vice-president. Chopra bagged 972 votes while his rivals HS Narang could only manage 349 votes and Vijay Bhatia managing 265 votes.
